I’ve toyed with an idea of starting a Substack for a while now.
It didn’t seem too appealing because of my big fear of failure and my inner critic who has been unusually active lately. What made me finally get up and do it was that I got fed up with Twitter’s ridiculous policies. I was never an active Twitter user but I’ve been keeping up with the news which made my blood boil from time to time. However censoring of Substack links was the last straw.
Now I want to have an active Substack out of spite. And I hope a lot of people will do it too so that it will become a Streisant effect.
Another thing I’ve been fed up with is the constant censorship over on Instagram. When it comes to the news about Ukraine, sharing the information quickly is vital.
Yesterday Substack has launched Substack Notes which was not supposed to be a competitor to Twitter but obviously Twitter saw it as one. Ted Gioia wrote a great essay on the subject:
I’m very excited about Substack Notes, right now it seems like a much more sane and intellectual alternative to Twitter and the community is great - it’s your favourite authors who you already follow on Substack as well as the authors they recommend.
So yeah I’m killing two birds with one stone by starting this Substack - fighting the censorship and shutting down my own inner critic.
The plan is to post here once a week to start with. I do have my own blog over at oksanablomdalen.com and I will continue posting my writing there but here I’ll have my “weekly most important writing” if you will.
If you’re not on Substack yet, I urge you to at least check it out and see if it is something for you. I know a lot of you smart people, you should definitely start writing.
